The secret to keeping your skin baby-smooth is in the easy-to-find ingredients for this invigorating skin treatment. It combines salt to exfoliate, sugar to dislodge and dissolve dead skin cells, almond oil to smooth and nourish the skin, and lavender oil to discourage wrinkles. My friend Ole Henriksen has the most beautiful skin I have ever seen, so I’m sticking with his advice. For more recipes, check out “Beauty and The Beach” in the Stormy Nights chapter of Summertime Anytime.
Makes 1/3 cup, enough for two treatments.
2 tablespoons fine sea salt
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons almond oil
8 teaspoon (about 10 drops) lavender essential oil (available at Whole Foods or at Kalustyan’s)
Mix together the salt, sugar, and almond and lavender oils and store in a small covered glass jar. For best results, massage the scrub into damp skin in small upward and outward circular motions for 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat the treatment 2 or 3 times per week on clean skin to assure better absorption of moisturizers and sun care products.
Now that you’ve pampered yourself, pamper your surroundings with a decorated glass hurricane for some special ambience.
