Happy Birthday, Farmgirl!

pasta pomodoroWhen I started this blog five years ago, it seems like an auspicious idea. My cookbook was coming out in a couple months, and my editor at Clarkson Potter suggested getting the word out by sharing a few of the recipes.

I had no clue what a URL was. I’d never even had my own domain. But I liked the idea of having one.

So I started with what I knew. I cooked and I wrote. I blogged about everything from last night’s dinner to the latest family drama.

It wasn’t easy to come up with new and exciting recipes each week. And sometimes my hectic, juggling-act life just didn’t seem inspiring enough to write about.

But I learned to embrace my new realm…despite its weekly demands and frustrations. My cooking and writing both seemed to benefit from the discipline. And the best part was having lots of new company at my table…you.

Farmgirl with Matteo + FrancesoWhat surprises me most about my blog is how it much it has nourished me.
It has allowed us to get to know each other, and along the way, you’ve encouraged me, kept me company, and showed me how to claim my little corner of cyperspace. Hundreds of recipes, cooking tips, and giveaways later, we have traipsed through life together, one bowl at a time.

So today, five years later, let’s celebrate…with something delicious, of course! This might possibly be the best pasta dish you’ve ever eaten. At least that was the word from everyone who came to last week’s La Dolce Vita class with Chef Matteo Temperini of Le Sirenuse in Positano, Italy. Combine a few fine ingredients with a little finesse and you, too, will be cooking up some serious heat in your kitchen.

Happy Birthday to us. Happy Valentine’s Day, too. May your day be filled with love, magic and pasta.

Chef Matteo Termperini will be cooking at One Pico Restaurant at Shutters On The Beach Hotel from February 19 – 26th. Book your reservation now! More info here.
