Here are a few of my favorite things for summer:
…and the one I’ve already worn to shreds.
2. Groovy shades
A year-round essential for us Angelenos, a cool pair of sunglasses can change your look from frump to fresh. This season, I’m all over the ones with mirrored lenses. These lightweight sunnies from Beach Riot have a hipster 70’s vibe – I’ve been wearing them from dawn to dusk! Order them here or pick up a pair at The Beverly Hills Bikini Shop. I’m also loving this white and tortoise pair that says summer all over!
3. Beverly Hills Farmgirl Organic Olive Oil
Sure, I’d love for you to try this olive oil so you can taste why I chose it out of a dozen contenders. Use it on all your summer salads, in desserts, baked goods and gazpacho. Luckily, you can always order more from my shop. Bring a bottle to your next summer soirée for a super-thoughtful and delicious gift.
4. Bicycle Basket
This summer, bike everywhere you can. Strap this adorable basket onto the handle bars so you can carry your farmers market finds and fresh flowers, too.
5. Colorful cup holder for bikes
This sunny cup holder adjusts to all angles so you can stay hydrated on the road.
6. Lightweight plaid shirt
Instead of wearing sweaters and jackets to cover up, try a light lumberjack. Look for ones that are a little sheer with fun colors like purple, blue or red. Cute over a tank or tied around your waist. I’m loving this one from the uber-hip Theory Theyskens collab. And it’s on sale now…good luck nabbing one!
7. Grind Salt and Pepper Set
These sleek pens will season your summer fare wherever you are. Throw them in a picnic basket or wrap them as a hostess gift. Chic enough to display on any table and handy enough to use at the stove. I keep the lucite ones at the table and the stainless ones on my counter at all times.
8. Bandolier iPhone holder
When I finally get an iPhone, I‘m going to buy one of these so I don’t lose it. The cases and chains come in a rainbow of colors, but I like the classic black with a rose gold chain.
9. Heliocare Antioxidant Dietary Supplement
In summer, you want to be outdoors as much as possible. But all that sun exposure can be damaging and even lethal. Topical sunscreens can only go so far to protect your skin from harmful rays, especially through sheer fabrics and during exercise. I take one of these vitamins a day to help prevent skin damage, age spots, and dehydration.
Note: Heliocare is not a sunscreen and should be used in addition to topical sun protection.
10. Water Filter Bottles by Brita
You never know where you will be when thirst hits. These bottles go everywhere and takes the guesswork out of clean hydration. The hard-sided ones include a straw and the soft-sided ones are squeezable. Both are BPA-free.
11. Cynthia Rowley wetsuit
How dope is this color-block neoprene number? J. Crew has already sold out. Score one quick on Nordstom.com.
12. Raw almond slices
I recently swapped my overly processed protein bars for real food. Here’s my favorite on-the-go snack: toss two cups of sliced almonds with a tablespoon or two of miso paste and a handful of chia or hemp seeds. Add some turmeric or chile powder if you like heat. Spread the mixture on a tray and bake in the toaster oven for 10 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool, then break into pieces. It’s what I’ll be packing for hikes, bikerides and picnics.
