"I realized that our little beach house affirms much of what I believe is meaningful and right in this world: gathering good company together for a meal; giving to those we love through simple, artful cooking; and bringing the beauty and freedom of the beach into our every day lives. These are the simple pleasures we share at Shutters..."

Even though I wrote these words about 3 years ago, they ring every bit as true to me today. They are the reason I wrote Summertime Anytime: Recipes from Shutters On The Beach (Clarkson Potter, May 2008). In it you will find 130 recipes from my family’s cozy Santa Monica hotel, along with entertaining tips, décor ideas from designer Michael S. Smith, and homemade beauty treatments from our spa guru, Ole Henriksen.

We Angelenos are lucky to have a beach in our backyard, and I have always turned to it as a source of both inspiration and solace. If you don’t already have a copy of Summertime Anytime: Recipes from Shutters On The Beach, I hope you’ll make some room on your cookbook shelf—you won’t be disappointed!

Crazy delicious and easy to use recipes. My new staple is the sweet corn chowder. The book is also loaded with great cooking tips and is so beautiful to look at, I bought a dozen copies to give out as hostess gifts this summer! The summertime vibe is now very much alive in my home (and it isn't even summer yet!).

WOW! What a fresh, accessible cookbook. It's my new favorite on the bookshelf, right next to the Barefoot Contessa series. I was hungry for easy, hip recipes I could use in cooking for my family and having friends over, and this book really delivered just what I was looking for.
